Many of us still have floppy disks lying around collecting dust, perhaps lurking in the dark corners of your office or garage. Technology changes so quickly! There are some great places online for recycling floppy disks to make some extra cash or help out people in your community.

Mail Your Disks

You want them out of your space once and for all? Well then send them in to floppydisk.com.

You send them your old diskettes and they recycle them for reuse. Best part of all: you don’t have to erase your disks. They’ll erase the data and reformat all diskettes they receive. Just mail ‘em and move on.

Their Two Cents: Make Money Recycling Floppy Disks

Cha-ching- if you have 500 or more disks to recycle, floppydisk.com will pay you 2 cents each for each one. That’s a lot of Lincolns!

And let’s not forget GreenDisk, which sells sweet recycled-materials computer stuff and offers the use of their “technotrash” recycling services. Their standard technotrash can holds up to 35 pounds of your old, obsolete techno stuff. Drop your old VHS tapes, CDS, cassette tapes and of course diskettes into the box, and follow their instructions.

Here’s a complete list of what they take. Note: The Technotrash Can is only available in the 48 contiguous states.
